Napoleon with or without wreath: This popular collector coin is available with two different motifs. While the head of Napoleon III does not wear a laurel wreath on the obverse in the early minting years 1854 to 1860, the head is depicted with a laurel wreath on later mintings from 1862 to 1869. The reverse shows a bound wreath of leaves and the nominal value of 5 francs.

This coveted collector's coin was minted during the reign of Napoleon III in the Second Empire (1852-1870). The early mintings from 1855 to 1860 show the portrait of the ruler without the laurel wreath. From 1862 to 1869 his head is depicted with a laurel wreath. The motif on the coin side consists of the Empire's coat of arms - an eagle with a crown as well as symbols and ornaments.
