Switzerland’s first trading platform for precious metals

PreMeSec is Switzerland’s first trading platform for precious metals such as gold and silver, aimed at private individuals. Through classified adverts, you can find potential buyers for your gold bars, gold coins and other precious metal investment products.

All you need to do is register; once your details have been verified, you can list gold and silver for sale or contact sellers.

We’ve summarised how registration and trading on PreMeSec work in our short video.

Trade gold and silver via classified adverts and save on commission

In Switzerland, mobile phones, cars and even houses are traded completely securely via online platforms. There is no reason why you shouldn’t also trade precious metals directly with other private individuals. With PreMeSec, you avoid the high commissions and wide spreads charged by banks and coin dealers: the seller receives a higher return and the buyer pays less than they would at a bank counter. Your advert runs for 31 days as standard. During this time, hundreds of users ready to buy will see your advert – ideally, you’ll even find several interested parties. What’s more, PreMeSec’s listing fees are unbeatably low and far below the costs of conventional second-hand or auction platforms.

  • Price fluctuations and risk: Trading in precious metals (gold, silver, etc.) is subject to significant price fluctuations and involves the risk of loss in value. Historical performance is not an indicator of future results. In the case of collector coins (such as rare vintages of the Goldvreneli), it should also be noted that the value may depend on volatile collector and enthusiast premiums.

How to sell precious metals via classified adverts

  • Step 1: Place an advert: As a verified seller, create an advert stating the price.

  • Step 2: Making contact: Prospective buyers filter for the right product. Registered and verified prospective buyers click ‘Contact’. This provides you with the contact details (email address) of the prospective buyer, and they receive your contact details. Further communication takes place directly between the parties via the channel of their choice.

  • Step 3: Handover/Completion: Once contact has been made, any questions can be clarified and, if necessary, details regarding payment and delivery can be agreed. During the face-to-face handover, check the money carefully. As soon as everything is in order, hand over the precious metal. This is how you sell precious metals securely, transparently and without intermediaries. Please note our tips for selling safely online.

Greater security when trading in gold and silver with PreMeSec.ch

To register, customers need a Swiss address, a Swiss telephone number on which they can receive text messages, and an identity card or passport. The details are verified by our staff manually and using technical tools, which significantly increases security compared to other second-hand platforms, where anyone worldwide can register without an identity check. This means we protect our customers and their valuable possessions far more effectively than free classifieds sites. PreMeSec offers an advertising model, which means that, unlike on other second-hand marketplaces, the sale is not finalised on the platform. This allows you to cancel the sale at any time should a potential buyer fail to honour agreements or behave suspiciously.

Which precious metals can be listed on PreMeSec?

On PreMeSec, coins and bars made from various precious metals can be offered for sale. Limiting the platform to these products provides users with a level of filtering and transparency that no other platform can offer. Furthermore, coins and bars are standardised, enabling customers to easily determine the value of the precious metals on offer. For this reason, scrap gold or scrap silver cannot be traded.

Privacy protection with classified adverts on PreMeSec.ch

On PreMeSec.ch, only registered users can place adverts, and only registered and verified users are permitted to contact the advertisers. This ensures that users’ data is securely protected.

Since 1 January 2025, traditional second-hand platforms have been subject to platform taxation and are required to submit extensive information about their customers and their sales to the tax authorities (see the obligation to provide information in VAT Info 27, section 3.5). This includes names, addresses and products sold and purchased. PreMeSec.ch is committed to data protection and can safeguard this information through its classifieds model, which is not subject to platform tax.

Sell silver without paying VAT

Commercial dealers must pay VAT on their sales of silver, platinum and palladium.

Due to platform taxation, second-hand marketplaces must also collect and pay VAT on private sales of bullion made from white precious metals. As a result, sellers receive less money for their silver or have to pay higher commissions. This significantly increases the price for users. As classified adverts are exempt from this regulation, we do not have to deduct VAT from the selling price or increase our fees.
